We love to serve here at the Mormon Trail Center,
We have a Senior Dinner each month and this month we visited the Florence Mill, this is suppose to be the mill that Brigham Young built here when they were at Winter Quarters, and on the outside of the mill it is has a sign about Brigham and the Mill, We had a dinner and then a tour of the Mill, The mill is interesting and the lady that runs it is also interesting. The story she tells is fascinating, but as research is done on the Mill, it only has one beam from the original. The original mill that Brigham build was about 3 blocks west of the present site and was flooded in 1936. The owner, according to the history, used the timber from the old mill to build the present one. But we have found the only thing original is the beam. Here are some pictures of the Mill
We have had some interesting tours. A family came in on their way to Utah, a family of 5 who were related to the Perry family in Farmington. They came in asked if Sister Jones was there because she gave a tour last year to them. I told them sorry that Sister Jones was not here so they would have to settle for Elder White, the old guy. They had the tour and when they got through they were ok with his tour, but said that Sister Jones was cuter.
Many people come through this time of year for baseball tournaments, We have had a couple from the Farmington Area, they all want to know if we are related to Bryan White at Farmington City who does the Sports. They love him and we love him and are proud of him.
A couple from the Chinese Consulate from Los Angles was on a tour of the United States and was drawn to the Visitor Center because of the Mormon Culture. They enjoyed the tour and talked about how they love the church and what it stands for, They talked about someday maybe the church could be more active in China.
Many people are looking up their ancestors and learning about them. It is so fun to help them realize they have pioneer heritage, with family m;embers buried in the Pioneer Cemetery across the street. Many are being blessed with the research of the area that Elder White put together. Way to go Elder White!!!
