We love to serve here at the Mormon Trail Center, We have a Senior Dinner each month and this month we visited the Florence Mill, this is suppose to be the mill that Brigham Young built here when they were at Winter Quarters, and on the outside of the mill it is has a sign about Brigham and the Mill, We had a dinner and then a tour of the Mill, The mill is interesting and the lady that runs it is also interesting. The story she tells is fascinating, but as research is done on the Mill, it only has one beam from the original.  The original mill that Brigham build was about 3 blocks west of the present site and was flooded in 1936. The owner, according to the history, used the timber from the old mill to build the present one.  But we have found the only thing original is the beam. Here are some pictures of the Mill We have had some interesting tours.  A family came in on their way to Utah, a family of 5 who were related to the Perry family in Farmington. They ...

Finding our Ancestors

It is fun to work in an area with so much History of the Church. We get to speak of Brigham Young and the saints at Winter Quarters and Kanesville everyday . The other exciting thing is to go to sites where our very own ancestors lived. On Saturday we were able to go to Indian Springs, Mill county Iowa where Peter Huntsman lived and Council Point where Mary Ann Presdee Phillips along with Edward her son and family lived. We were able to visit both sites and learn about the area . A short history of the cemetery relates that when a permanent road was built on the north side, bones of both early Mormon settlers and Native Americans were uncovered. The Native American burials were identified by the artifacts buried with them. These remains were reburied, “white people on the south side of the road and the Indians on the north side.” In official records North Grove Cemetery itself begins under grim circumstances. Yet, the tale imparts a clear ignorance of incoming settlers (willfu...

May 27th - June 3rd

The Lord through his Servants have said that there are people out here in the  Mission that are ready for the gospel. The Lord has prepared others to receive the truth. We as missionaries never know who we will meet at the Trail Center or the Tabernacle who are really prepared until we begin to take them through the Center. On Saturday May 25th a young couple came through the Mormon Trail Center and received a tour with two of the young sister missionaries. They had a lot of questions about the church and the doctrine. They were very attentive and some of the questions were very pointed about the church and our beliefs. The sisters invited them to go to the cemetery and to the Temple grounds and then to come back if they had questions. Monday May 27th the same couple came to the Kanesville Tabernacle and Sister White gave them the tour of the Visitors Center. As Elder White took them to the Tabernacle and gave the tour,  he always asks if they had any questions. ...
