Jan 21st- 27th

It's cold here at Winter Quarters. It's hard to imagine the pioneers here in the winter of 1846-47 some of them living in wagons and trying to keep warm. It is a Ice Box. In a journal of Brigham Young he wrote that it was -20 on Feb 2nd and they were trying to build a mill. They probably didn't know much about wind chill but at 10 mph  that would make it -34 degrees, that is cold

This week we experienced a miracle with one of our friends in the Karen Group.  We have a little  Karen Lady,  Myi Kyi, who was blind. She was baptized   30th November and and shortly afterward she finally got Medicaid which she had not been able to get before. After she was able to make an appointment with the eye doctor.  This last week after surgery she was able to SEE!!! It was a special miracle that shows the Lord rewards us for doing good and being obedient as we come unto Him. She is very active and will be able now to see the things that are going on.

We attended Zone Conference in Sioux City, Iowa.  What a wonderful spiritual meeting. We are so glad with the change at the Trail Center that we are able to still go to the Mission Zone Conferences.  We love the association with the Mission President and his wife. We love the spirit that is present at Zone Conference with the young elders and sisters.

A faith promoting story from Church History

I Just Wanted To Spend The Day With Him
We live in a frenetic world where sometimes it is easy to forget the things that matter most. This story is meant to be a gentle reminder.
Spencer was very ill and yet could not afford to be. A series of heart attacks brought him down and confined him to his bed. He went from a fulfilling and worthwhile work to a boring monotonous humdrum. After nearly two months of house confinement he began to look for a change of scenery. Arrangements were made for him to return to his boyhood home of the deserts of Arizona—a place he loved.
He camped out in a borrowed tent-trailer under some pine trees not too far from the home of a friend. The recuperative time in the solitude of nature was heavenly and therapeutic for his soul, and he grew stronger.
Early one morning, those watching over him discovered his bed empty. Thinking perhaps that he had just gone for a walk and he would be back by breakfast, they were not terribly concerned, but by 10:00 A.M. when he did not return, they became alarmed, and a search was mounted.
They finally found him several miles away under a pine tree. As they approached, they could see his eyes closed and his open bible lying next to him. They drew closer and still he did not move or open his eyes. Fearing the worst, they ran up to him and as they did, his eyes opened and to their surprise they discovered tears coursing down his cheeks. “To their questions, he answered, “[Five] years ago today I was called to be an Apostle of the Lord Jesus Christ, and I just wanted to spend the day with Him whose witness I am.””
Spencer was Spencer W. Kimball whose love for the Lord and his fellowman lingers still in the memory of those who knew him. Each week, we too have the opportunity to spend the day with the Lord. May it be a time tender and sweet.
