February 19th - February 25th

Sunday the 25th, it's amazing that we have been out here one month today. TEMPLE DOORS STAINED GLASS WINDOWS This week has been filled with winter weather. On Monday we had an ice storm that put 1/8th inch thick layer on the car. Doors were frozen shut and Paul had to chip off ice from the windows. The ice delayed our start at the Trail Center. We got every thing cleaned off and finally got to travel at 11:00am. We have been soo thankful for our electric start, it has helped warm our car so many days, thanks Scott and Christy! ICE STORM Monday night the architect of the Winter Quarters temple talked at our Senior Couples dinner. It brought back a lot of memories of Grandpa Hodson building the Provo and Las Vegas temples. Another ice storm Wednesday, not as bad as Monday. Finally on Saturday the weather people predicted a day of snow and ice. They closed the Winter Quarters Temple because people travel a long ways to work there. We worked at ...

Cold week in February

Winter Quarters Temple FEBRUARY 12TH THROUGH 18TH Kanesville Tabernacle It has been a week of work and learning. We have been working at the Trail Center and Tabernacle this week, pretty slow on the shifts that we have been working. It is fun to work at the Trail Center and be able to talk to people about the Church.  This week we met a man who was doing research on a movie and historic site. It was interesting to talk to him  (and Elder White helped him a lot! He is working on a historic Site  in Lexington Missouri.  The city is the site where a riverboat accident that involved Latter day Saints who were coming from England and who were traveling from New Orleans to Council Bluffs Iowa.  They started on the journey up the Missouri.  The river was running high and the ice was floating on the river. When the boat reached Lexington Missouri is was docked and had tried to make the passage up the river, but the current was swift and the ice made th...

Working on Mission

Image
February 5th through February 11th We are now in a regular schedule with regular working hours. We have been assigned to work at the temple and have began learning the important lessons there. Working here can be a challenge, we woke up Monday to snow, it snowed most of the day. The Mission President grounded all cars after 8:00 pm and the Trail Center closed early. It is cold with wind chill around -5 degrees. They put so much salt on the roads we have to wash our car weekly. Tuesday we closed again early, had to scramble to get Sisters Home, they share cars out here and all the cars are in outlying areas. One set of Sisters didn't have the keys to the apartment. It was challenging.  We had a call from President Gardner that he wanted us to work in the Temple every night it was open, wanted Elder Russell to change our schedule. The Schedule is for a month and we didn't want to disrupt the work at Trail Center. It was confusing until we worked it out. We will train for the m...

Monday January 29th Sunday  Elder Randy and Sister Charlotte Russell trained us how to open and close the Kanesville Tabernacle. Monday we met the Russells for a tour of the Trail Center, we were shown the process of a tour through the center. We had the opportunity to be there on the night of the Senior Dinner. Once a month we get together with the Senior Couple for a pot luck dinner. Eating Dinner with Senior Couples night President and Sister Gardner at Senior Dinner Tuesday January 30th Met early at the Trail Center for more training.  We were given our pass keys to open and close building. Worked a short shift. Our friends from the MTC Elder and Sister Zimmerman took a tour on their way to New York. Then to our apartment for study and rest Wednesday January 31st Today would have been my dad's 104th birthday, it was a day of training at Zone Conference. We went early only to find we had the wrong address, all seniors from the Trail Center were at ...

TRAVELING TO THE MISSION FIELD

Image
Sunday January 21st Spent Sunday at the Missionary Training Center, a full day of Church and Devotionals. The interesting thing that I observed was that Sunday is cereal only for breakfast, all the Elders with 3 or 4 bowls and here I am with only one. Not my favorite breakfast. They didn't even have hot oatmeal or cream of wheat.  Sunday Sacrament Meeting was given by an Elder and Sister going to England and Priesthood meeting was by an Elder going to Chicago to be in the office with his wife. Great meetings. There is no Sunday School at the MTC only missionary discussion. The Devotionals were both great, one on departure and one on Missionary Discussion.  Sisters also went to one called Matching the Master so we could help the younger sisters with dress and other rules. Monday January 22nd. We went to the Salt Lake Temple Square for training on how to give tours. We were there with 3 other couples going to the Visitors Centers or Historic Sites. Our favorite part of the...
