Twas the Week before Christmas and all through the Mission, Missionaries continued to teach the First Vision, the Doctrine of Christ and faith, REPENTANCE, and baptism.  The Trail Center and Tabernacle were a buzz as people came in to see Gingerbread displays and good entertainment, and Missionaries giving "a glimpse of heaven" and Pioneer travel. Last Saturday was exciting with over 1500 people visiting the Trail Center. Senior Missionaries were giving tours and even Sister White and Elder White gave 11 tours each!!  We were exhausted. It was fun 6 hour shift. Sunday our Sacrament Meeting was special. We have such talent in our ward. The spirit was so strong. Even the Karen Group participated in singing Silent Night in the Karen Language. This week a glimpse of Christmas in early Church History First Recorded Christmas in Church History December 20, 2018. Christmastime at Winter Quarters is exciting.  This has been a busy week with Zone Conference, Gingerbread, and many Sister Missionaries leaving the Trail Center for home, but a thought about Christmas shared at our Trail Center Training on Saturday morning we thought you would enjoy. Christmas is many things to many people — from the eager, materialistic grasping of a child for a present to the deep spiritual thankfulness of the mature heart for the gift of a Savior.  If there is one common denominator, perhaps it is this:  Christmas is love.  Christmas is the time when the bonds of family love transcend distance and inconvenience.  It is a time when love of neighbor rises above petty day-to-day irritations, and doors swing open to give and receive expressions of appreciation and affection. If to our Christmas gift list is added the gift of service — not only to friends and family, but also to those who badly need help — then our giving can be c...

December 3rd - 9th We love Winter Quarters. The weather has moderated and it's beginning to look like Christmas all over the area with Outside Christmas displays on homes and businesses.  We have our apartment decorated and the hallways of Woodbridge Apt are also decorated. We had an great Sacrament meeting this Week. All the talks and prayers were given in the Karen Language.  The spirit was strong and was very enjoyable to listen to testimonies of two recent converts. We have some more gingerbread pictures.  It is really busy here this time of year and so fun! I have another Pioneer Christmas Story The Case of the Missing Molasses Orderville, Utah—One December evening some of the sisters of Orderville met to plan a Christmas treat for the children. The Order had no luxuries and the necessities were strictly rationed. About the only sweets the people had was molasses, so, the sisters decided to make molasses candy and cookies for the youngsters. But on Chr...

November 26th - December 2nd A winter week at Winter Quarters. Snow has arrived and all the ground is covered in white. It has been interesting getting around and navigating roads. We had a wonderful Baptism of a blind Karen woman who’s name is Myi Kyi.  She became a member of the Church on Friday November 30th. Sister White gave the talk on Baptism. It was a wonderful experience to see how the Lord works through others to bring about change. Her friend Naw Htoo was baptised a few weeks ago and Myi Kyi could tell how happy she was, and wanted the same feeling. Naw Htoo is the Karen person who gave Sister White and I Karen Names, Pe Wa (Sister White) and Pu Wa (Elder White) they mean Grandma White and Grandpa White. Saturday our ward celebrated what they called a “White Christmas”. We were to each find an family name and do the work for them. and meet in a temple session, thus creating a new ward on the other side of the veil. It was great!  In the evening we took N...

Winter has arrived here at Winter Quarters. Snow and cold all week.  We have been working hard at the Visitor  centers with visitors and Gingerbread Festival. Families visiting with there children who are here at school and local children out of school made for a lot of  people at the Trail Center and Tabernacle. Senior Thanksgiving Dinner Our Apartment Thanksgiving was great for the senior missionary couples here. We had dinner together with five couples and invited people who live in our complex for Thanksgiving dinner We had about 18 people at  our dinner, 12 missionaries, 3 people who lived in the complex and 3 people from the Karen Group of the Fontenelle Ward, it was fun. Also the 5 missionary couples delivered Food baskets to the local Fire Stations in the area. We wanted to give thanks to those who had to work on Thanksgiving to keep us safe.  This was a great activity. We have Gingerbread Festival at the Trail Center, I have created a video ...

Gingerbread at Kanesville Tabernacle

Image
This week opened the Gingerbread Festival in both Kanesville Tabernacle and Mormon Trail Center. They have displays at both locations. This week let's give you a tour of the Tabernacle. It is such a great activity, last year over 25,000 visited in November and December. This is such a great time of year especially this week to be Thankful. President Gordon B. Hinckley said, “When you walk with gratitude, you do not walk with arrogance and conceit and egotism, you walk with a spirit of thanksgiving that is becoming to you and will bless your lives.” Have a Happy Thanksgiving and share your love and Testimony with others. We love you all

One week it was fall and this week winter. Weather is really cold. The first of the week was good weather for Paulynn and Amy to go home and by Friday our friend Royd Waters had to drive in snow. Friday at the temple was slow to start out but by 10:00 am we had a lot of workers. Saturday was so cold the door lock on our car was frozen. We had a good visit with Royd as he is on his way to Houston Texas to live. He had dinner with us and the Fontenelle Ward Elders. He was confused that I use the term Sister White all the time. He visited the Trail Center and Tabernacle. We are getting ready for the Gingerbread Festival at both the Tabernacle and the Trail Center. It opens next week and they are expecting big crowds at both places.  We are having a great time working on finding and fellowship people. We are planning to serve Thanksgiving dinner to some of the residents in our building. Some are here without family. Gingerbread Barn Gingerbread game of Scrabble We...

Halloween and Daylight Savings time this week, another beautiful fall week in Omaha, cool days and Crisp nights.  Tours are special this time of year, couples going and coming from Missions stop by to see the visitor centers. Wednesday was Halloween. The Trail Center closed early and all the sisters and senior couples had a Halloween party. It was a fun time with chili dogs and games the sisters could play. They had to be in there apartment by 6:30 pm. It was also Zone Conference day. It was pretty busy Another visitor from home Paulynn and her friend Amy stopped by to go to the Temple with us on Friday and do some tours around here including the Trail Center and Tabernacle. They went on to Nauvoo and Carthage. After they went to the Missouri sites they spent Sunday night with us before going home. Sunday we had a Special Temple Fireside with Elder Bruce C Hafen. A great fireside about the Temple and the Atonement. We had a Regional Conference so the SISTERS had the d...

Another fun week with family visiting. Matthew's family left on Monday, Bryan's left on Wednesday, and Greg's family arrived Thursday and left this Monday. It is great to have family come and visit but it is hard to say goodbye to each one. It is great that our family loves us enough to come and visit. I have heard from some Senior couples that they wish their family would come. Exciting week in the Karen Group. We had a baptism of Sister Naw Htoo who was baptized on Saturday morning and confirmed a member of the Church on Sunday. She has such a sweet spirit and she was really excited. The Karen Group is growing slowly. When you think that they receive a testimony without having the Book of Mormon translated in their language the Holy Ghost must be working overtime here.
