This week's blog is short , mainly because we have been so busy at the Mormon Trail Center and Kanesville Tabernacle. This is the time that families and bus tours try to get to Nauvoo for the Pageants.  Over 5,000 visitors at the Mormon Trail Center and over 2,000 at the Tabernacle. This week the Union Pacific Bob Boy train 4014 came through on a MidWest and Omaha. We got some awesome pictures.  Our thought for the week  Orson Hyde Returns Summer 1838, Orson returned from serving as a missionary in England to Far West, Missouri just as trouble began. Orson was very ill and exhausted. Unable to get out, friends called on him and filled his ears with news of the escalating conflict between the Latter-day Saints and angry locals. Sidney Rigdon called on the sick apostle and told him to stand with Joseph Smith. Thomas B. Marsh however, himself angry and embittered over issues with cream, came and railed on Joseph, blaming him for the conflict, accusing hi...

Mt Pisgah Monument  What a wonderful week we have had, serving on this mission is great,we love being busy talking about the History of the area and of the gospel of Jesus Christ. If we had not extended this would have been one of the last blogs for this mission, but we have extended and will be another 5 months. This week was something unusual, we were able to get away for the weekend for our 47th wedding anniversary.  We were able to go to Mount Pisgah and Des Moines area.  Lots of Pictures and interesting sites. Mount Pisgah l ike Garden Grove, was a campsite and temporary settlement in southern Iowa for members of the LDS Church traveling west to Winter Quarters from Nauvoo. Mount Pisgah was established in southern Iowa as a temporary way station for Mormon emigrants who crossed the Plains from 1846-1852.    The picturesque setting was a welcome sight to many of the expelled Saints. Ezra T. Benson described Mount Pisgah as “the first place that...

Since this is Independence week, We had a wonderful regular 4th of July Picnic with the the Missionaries at the Mormon Trail Center. It was a fun time. We had the opportunity to retire an American Flag that flew over the Kanesville Tabernacle. The Senior Missionaries who had served in the Military were the Honor Guard. Elder Medley who served in the Navy, Elder Luker and Elder White who served in the Air Force and Air National Guard, President Deshler and President Johnson who served in the Army and the National Guard. What a great Honor for the right that we had to show others how the flag should be retired. On Saturday night we attended a great fireworks display, 45 minutes of fireworks all of them like the grand finally. Fireworks on the Holiday I thought I might say a word about our Founding Fathers.  We are deeply indebted to all the noble men and women who sacrificed their lives to establish this country of the United States of America some 243 ...

Summer has arrived in Omaha heat was 96 degrees and at 50% Humidity the temperature felt like 108 degrees. This was the typical temperature for a couple of days this week.  With this type of heat, the advisory was stay inside and drink plenty of water. Speaking of water a couple of storms dumped 3" of water in about 30 Minutes! Really a great week at the Mormon Trail Center and the Kanesville Tabernacle. Sister White ended the month with about 30 tours at the Trail Center, New this year the Senior Couples are in the loop for the tours with the Sisters at the Center. That probably matched all the tours she had given all the last 16 Months. Here are some pictures of the flowers at the Kanesville Taberncle Many People are connecting with their pioneer ancestors with the program called Relative Finder (www.relativefinder.org) there is a page for people who are buried in the Pioneer Cemetery at Winter Quarters. It can be found under the Groups drop down menu under commu...
